"And so, you see, immigration law is very complicated. Also, illegal immigrants don't live off our health care system. They aren't entitled to any public benefits, other than emergency medical care, and if you can live with people, even undocumented ones, dying in the streets, then by all means espouse a dogma which opposes that. They aren't entitled to social security, retirement, Medicare, MedicAid, or anything else. If their employer is taking income taxes out of their paychecks, they are not getting anything back on returns. They live on property, which means they are paying property taxes, utility taxes, etc. Plus, whenever they buy anything, they are still paying sales tax. So, they get income taxed and sales taxed without getting returns or social security or being entitled to any federal or state public benefits. They are a part of our country and our economy; we need them, they are here, they are still coming, and they are not leaving, we had better find a way to live with this reality amicably and maybe we'd all be a lot happier. Sure, immigration law is complicated, but that's because it's trying to marry these warring necessities--controlling our borders and threats to national security with the fact that this country would not function without immigrants."
